The Yorkshire Mixtures
Concert at St. Mary’s 16th May
The Yorkshire Mixtures is a choir of approximately 36 mixed voices, representing a number of local choirs in the Dearne Valley region of South Yorkshire. The choir was formed in 2015 when a group of singers from the renowned Thurnscoe Harmonic Male Voice Choir invited friends from other choirs to perform with them in the Austrian Tyrol in the summer of the following year. The response to the invitation resulted in a mixture of male and female voices, hence the name, “The Yorkshire Mixtures” – suggested by one of the members, referring to the traditional Yorkshire selection of boiled sweets!
The repertoire of the choir is wide and varied, including both secular and sacred music, with songs from the shows, spirituals, traditional choral music and popular modern pieces.
Following their success in Austria, the choir has toured in England and Scotland, and this year are looking forward to a return visit to Somerset and Devon with performances in Chard and Sidmouth.
