Church News Week of January 28th, 2018

St Mary’s Singers
St Mary’s Singers will next meet at 6:30 pm on the following Tuesdays: 6th and 20th February, and 13th and 27th of March. Anyone who would like to join us from time to time will be very welcome.

Saturday Coffee@St Marys
Please Come. Our next coffee morning will be on Saturday 3rd February from 10:00 am to 12 noon. We look forward to seeing you for soup and a roll, coffee (or tea), cake and a chat.

Rotas for February to April
The rotas are being circulated by email and hard copy. If you have not received one that you would expect to have please speak to a warden.

Earth Day
On Saturday March 24th “Sustainable Chard will be holding another Earth Day” at the Guildhall. During the morning from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm we will have the opportunity to work with creating art and practical objects with items that go out for recycling in any way. We need jam jars especially and lots of helpers and other ideas. Please help us to make this work as the Church needs to show that as an institution and individuals we are prepared to think about the creation God has given us and to be aware of our need to be good stewards, both at home and in the Church environment. Offers of help to Rec Georgina and items for the sculptures etc in the box at the back of the church please.

Chard Town is to have a yarn bombing of POM POMs
on the weekend of the Chard festival 21st July. I think that there are many people who may want to make a pom pom or two to help this event go with a swing. the new sewing shop in Holyrood Street has pom pom makers for sale, otherwise it is the old fashioned cardboard circles. When you have made one please leave an end of around one foot of yarn so that it can be hung in a variety of places. They can be left at the Museum of St Marys at the back. Any queries please contact Rev Georgina.

Lent 2018
We will be serving Lent Lunches in aid of Christian Aid, every Monday from 19th February to 19th March. To help us with catering quantities there is a ‘sign up’ list on the coffee table at the back of the church. If you plan to join us for a lunch of soup, bread roll, tea/coffee and biscuits, please fill in your name and tick under the relevant date(s). Thank you for your support.

The Bible Course
This will be held once a week over 8 sessions excluding Holy Week; will have both and afternoon and evening option  – starting Tuesday 20th February 7 pm Combe St Nicholas Methodist Church; or Wednesday 21st February 2 pm @ St Marys Centre, chard.  All are welcome to attend either course. If you are interested then please contact Georgina or Katherine.

Already done the Bible course? Then this is for you.

Live Lent Course:
Across St Mary’s Chard and the Cloverleaf Benefice, this course from the Church of England; a six- week discipleship journey in 2018 through the Gospel of John, exploring what it means to be a witness. Runs each day from Ash Wednesday to Easter Day and provides a short reading, a pause for reflection and prayer, and an idea for a simple action that will enable the light of Jesus to shine through our everyday lives. If you would like to join a group which will meet once a week during Lent, these will be starting: Monday 19th February at 10:00 am at 16 Middle touches, Chard and Wednesday 21st February at 7:30 pm @ St Mary’s

All are welcome to either attend the group or use the course individually. Please contact Georgina or Katharine for more details.

Both these courses require you to purchase a booklet for £4.99 and £2.99 respectively. Please ask us in advance if possible so we can get them in good time.
