The Bishops’ Lent Appeal 2018 is raising money to support Lay Ministry in the Diocese of Bath and Wells and the five Anglican dioceses of Zambia.
Lay Ministry comes in all shapes and sizes and plays a vital role in the life of the Church. Hundreds of people across our diocese and the wider Anglican communion give freely their time, energy, gifts and experience to live and tell the story of Jesus in creative, generous and sensitive ways.
This year we are marking 40 years of our companion link with the five Anglican dioceses of Zambia and for that reason, the Bishops’ Lent Appeal will raise money to support Lay Ministry here in Somerset and in Zambia.
There are only a limited number of priests in Zambia, far fewer per head than there are here in Somerset, therefore, there is a greater reliance on Lay Ministers to lead churches and carry out other work.
Every day throughout Lent, the diocesan Prayer Calendar will feature prayers for those in Lay Ministry here in Somerset and in the five Anglican dioceses of Zambia.
Every week throughout Lent, inspiring stories, personal testimonies, and videos will be published on this website, our social media channels, and via the E-Bulletin. Please share news of this as widely as you can, in as many creative ways as you can and pray that the stories may inspire and encourage others to follow God’s call for their lives.
